What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people aged 65 or older and certain younger people with disabilities. It offers several parts that work together to provide comprehensive coverage.

Medicare Parts at a Glance
Part A – Hospital Insurance Part B – Medical Insurance Part C – Medicare Advantage Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage
  • Original Medicare (Parts A & B): Hospital and medical coverage managed by the federal government.
  • Medicare Advantage (Part C): Plans offered by private insurers that include Part A, Part B, and often Part D.
  • Medigap (Supplemental): Helps pay some of the out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare.
